What is Cave Conversations?
The cave is where I retreat to find the safety, solace and strength to return to the world.
This has been the significance of caves in human history. They’re where we go for shelter and survival – whether alone or in community.
I invite you into mine where I write about all the things that scare us and shame us, because I know that sharing sets us free. Start here.

About Liana
The Bermudian magazine described Liana Nanang as “a fascinating woman”, “a talented writer” and “an outspoken advocate for women's rights, mental health care and all those struggling in an imperfect society.” Liana is a multidisciplinary storyteller and the founder and CEO of Unstoried, a multimedia entertainment start-up that tells authentic stories of People of the Global Majority.
Inspired by her Black-Bermudian, Iban-Malaysian, Indigenous-South American and Scottish heritage, Liana's visual art and writing explores resilience and resistance as ancestral memory and what it means to be a neurodivergent woman of colour.
Liana obtained a law degree from University College, London and is a New York-qualified attorney. She studied acting at The Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute and T. Schreiber Studio in Manhattan.
Liana’s writing and photography have appeared in The New York Times and she has been interviewed by Forbes. As a mental health advocate, Liana has been an on-air contributor for the UK’s BBC Breakfast, BBC World News, and various Bermuda-based media channels. She is a past winner of Best Columnist in the Best of Bermuda Awards for her articles and blog posts examining culture, race, politics, and mental illness.
She founded Unstoried as a for-good, for-profit entity with the ultimate goal of establishing free healing centres to treat transgenerational trauma. Its Bermuda-focused initiative, Unchained on the Rock, chronicles narratives of Black liberation throughout the Atlantic Basin.
Liana has exhibited artwork in the Bermuda National Gallery Biennial, the Bermuda Society of Arts and the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art where she won Best Use of Materials in the 2021 Charman Prize.
Liana is a seasoned PR strategist. She spent several years leading a communications and content development firm and has worked with multinational corporations, political campaigns, and governmental agencies. She is also the former Special Advisor to the Premier of Bermuda.
